Chengyang is one of the main urban areas of Qingdao, originating from Buqi County in the Qin Dynasty. It is named after its location,the south of Buqi City, and has a history of over 2,000 years. Chengyang District was established in 1994 and currently governs 8 streets and 3 functional areas, with a total area of 583.68 square kilometers and a permanent population of 1.455 million.

01 The pioneer district of opening up

In 1989, Shandong Province introduced the first Korean wholly-owned enterprise, creating four "national firsts" with the largest number of Korean enterprises, the largest number of Korean residents, the largest number of Korean restaurants, and the largest number of people visiting South Korea. At present, more than 2,000 Japanese and Korean enterprises and over 400 Japanese and Korean cuisine are developing and growing in Chengyang, and 15,000 Japanese and Korean friends are living and working here.

A number of official institutions and business associations from South Korea, including the Consulate General of South Korea in Qingdao and the South Korean Small and Medium sized Enterprise Revitalization Association, are stationed in Chengyang. The first local national level platform for China Japan South Korea economic and trade cooperation in China, the Liaison Office of the China Japan South Korea Business Council (Qingdao), is located in Chengyang.

Chengyang district currently have trade relations with 210 countries and regions around the world, and have approved 7,393 foreign investment projects. In 2023 the GDP reached 139.742 billion yuan, earning it the titles of China's Top 100 Industrial Zones, China's Top 100 Innovation Zones, China's Top 100 Main Urban Zones, China's Top 100 High Quality Development Zones, and China's Top 100 Most Investment Potential Zones.

02 Capital of Advanced Manufacturing

The first "Harmony" and "Fuxing" vehicles in China drove out from here, and the world's first high-speed maglev transportation system with a speed of 600 kilometers per hour was successfully tested here.

60% of high-speed trains and 25% of subways in the country depart from here, tailored for countries and regions such as Singapore, St.Paulo,Brazil, and Chicago, USA.

The rail transit industry has been successfully selected as a national strategic emerging industry cluster and a national advanced manufacturing industry cluster.

03 City of Humanities and Ecology

Located at the western foot of Laoshan Mountain and the north bank of Jiaozhou Bay, it embraces the mountains and the sea, surrounded by the "Five Waters" and surrounded by mountains, rivers, forests, fields, and lakes.

The excellent air quality rate has reached 88.4%, the urban green coverage rate has exceeded 43.1%, and there are over 200 types of parks.

04 Prosperous Consumption Network

It has 6 major commercial districts including Lida Business District, Beiqu Business District, Baolong Business District, Dongfangcheng Business District, Shangma Business District, and Xifu Town Business District, as well as 9 major consumer gathering areas including Lubang Shuiyue City Music Bar Special Block and Liqun Wanxianghui Fashion Shopping Block, with an average daily passenger flow of 125,000 people.

Build 6 manufacturing industry chains, including rail transit equipment, energy storage, and integrated circuits, and construct 8 emerging industry professional parks.

The agglomeration of science and technology enterprises is accelerated, and the numbers of national high and new technology enterprises, high-growth enterprises such as specialized and sophisticated enterprises, and listed companies have all been doubled to exceed 1,900, 1,484, and 17, respectively.

China-Japan-Republic of Korea Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Pioneering Area

The paid-in foreign capital from Japan and the Republic of Korea saw an annual growth of over 10%.  It will become an important node of domestic and international dual circulation and provide important support for Qingdao to build a new platform for Belt and Road international cooperation.

The role of the transportation hub for domestic and international connectivity continues to be expanded, and the flows of personnel, logistics, information, and capital interact with each other are integrated in Chengyang, and the "intra-city effect" of the regional urban circle is fully manifested.

There are a number of national innovation platforms such as the National Demonstration Base for Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the High-tech Zone, and the National Technology Innovation Center for High-speed Trains, as well as a host of universities and scientific research institutes such as the University of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, and the Institute of Software Chinese Academy of Sciences. The gathering of these innovation resources provides Chengyang with great potential for future development.

6.Outstanding Achievements in Scientific and Technological Innovation

There are 35 key laboratories, including two national key laboratories and six provincial key laboratories. There are 185 technological innovation centers, including one at the national level and seven at the provincial level. A number of high-level innovation platforms, such as the Qingdao International Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park and the Specialty Food Innovation Center, have been established.

There are 1,900 state-level high-tech enterprises (Number ranks first in Qingdao city), and CRRC Sifang has been listed as one of the top500 state-owned enterprises in scientific and technological innovation. The completed "successful trial run of 600 km/h high-speed maglev test sample vehicle" was awarded "2020 Top Ten Scientific and Technological Achievements in Shandong".
