Shandong Port Group's (SPG) Qingdao Port Automated Container Terminal made history on December 2 by achieving another milestone. During operations on the vessel Xincheng, the terminal's cranes reached an average efficiency of 60.6 containers per hour per unit, breaking the world record for the 11th time. This is the second record set by the terminal, following a similar achievement on January 1.
Breaking the world record twice in one year showcases Qingdao Port's dedication to becoming a key player in the global maritime port network. It reflects the commitment of its workforce to embody the spirit of craftsmanship and innovation inspired by the "Zhenchao Spirit"—the embodiment of the nationally-recognized technician Xu Zhenchao's qualities, highlighting his dedication, innovative problem-solving, and pursuit of excellence, which have set a benchmark for industry professionals and inspired broader societal values—and the excellence of the renowned Liangang Innovation Team led by Zhang Liangang, exemplifying their pursuit of excellence and relentless drive to reach new heights.
The Qingdao Port Automated Container Terminal focuses on achieving a "Year of Comprehensive Breakthroughs" this year, striving for leadership and excellence in every aspect. The terminal has made significant strides by intensifying technical innovation and enhancing service quality; Qingdao Port established cooperative mechanisms emphasizing shared development and mutual success in collaboration with shipping companies. With the help of proprietary technologies like A-TOS and A-ECS, the port has successfully optimized efficient shipping routes and implemented tailored services for each vessel, achieving notable results. Operational efficiency increased by 6% compared to the same period last year, and container throughput grew by 15%, with the terminal surpassing its total 2022 throughput 43 days ahead of schedule.
Just last week, the Qingdao Port Automated Container Terminal successfully upgraded its self-developed next-generation intelligent control system to introduce seven key technological innovations, including dual-lift automatic loading and dual-trolley tandem operations for automated cranes. These advancements boosted operational efficiency by 6.3% year-on-year, contributing to the terminal's latest world record and providing a significant confidence boost to customers and shipping companies alike.
Going forward, SPG will maintain a determined and proactive attitude towards the Qingdao Port Automated Container Terminal and embrace a mindset of continuous improvement and innovation to accelerate the development of new quality productive forces and leverage technological advancements for future high-quality growth. Qingdao Port is committed to ensuring smooth transport corridors and achieving its annual goals for continued success in the final stretch of the year as part of its contribution to the growth and excellence of SPG's "Three Major Projects" program.
