The Qingdao Port Qianwan Port Area North Shore Railway Capacity Expansion and Reconstruction Project has received official approval from the Qingdao Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, marking the project's formal establishment and laying a solid foundation for subsequent work. As a key initiative in Shandong Province's efforts to build a world-class port cluster and Qingdao's ambition to establish an international shipping center, this project holds significant implications for enhancing the city's sea-rail intermodal container transport ratio and supporting the port's functional layout and overall development.

The Qianwan Port Area North Shore Railway is an internal dedicated rail line that has long played a critical role in handling and transporting cargo within the port. However, the existing capacity has fallen short of meeting escalating demand with the steady growth in port activity. It is expected that the port's bulk cargo handling capacity will increase to approximately 24 million tons per year following the implementation of this expansion project, while container handling capacity will rise to 3.3 million TEUs annually. This will significantly enhance the port's capabilities in cargo handling and distribution.
