Overview of Laoshan District  

Laoshan District is located on the coast of the Yellow Sea, the southeast of Qingdao. It is an open, innovative, livable and exquisite city surrounded by mountains and seas. It boasts a total land area of 395.8 km² and a total sea area of about 2,880 km². The population of permanent residents amounted to 518,000.

In 2022, the district's GDP reached 108.117 billion Yuan, up 5.7% year on year; its general public budget revenue was 20.37 billion Yuan, up 8.3% over the actual figure for the previous year; its investment in fixed assets was increased by 18.2% year on year.

In 2022, the growth rate of major economic indicators such as GDP and general public budget revenue in the entire region ranked first in Qingdao, making it the city with the most concentrated financial resources and the most dynamic scientific and technological innovation.

1.High-end emerging industries of Qingdao

Laoshan District is the core cluster district of high-end emerging industries of Qingdao, focusing on the development of IT, financial, tourist, pharmaceutical and health industries. The district contains four national policy-oriented areas which are Qingdao Hi-Tech Industry Park, Laoshan Scenic Spot, Shilaoren Scenic Area and Jinjialing Financial Area.

2.A highly dynamic technology innovation  district of Qingdao

Laoshan District is a highly dynamic scientific and technological innovation district of Qingdao. Several universities such as Ocean University of China, Qingdao University and Qingdao University of Science and Technology and numerous national-level scientific research institutes and provincial or ministerial-level key laboratories and engineering technical research centers are located here. With lots of independently innovating enterprises such as Haier (the first Chinese brand of home appliances), TGOOD (the first GEM listed company of China) and Hanhe Cable (the first Chinese brand of high-end electric cables) developed here; 9 unicorn companies such as COSMOPlat and TELD and 15 listed companies set up here, Laoshan District was accredited as the National Intellectual Property Demonstration District and the first National Intellectual Property Service Industry Cluster and Development Demonstration District in Shandong Province.

3.Gathering area of essence of tourism resources

Laoshan District gathers the essence of tourist resources of Qingdao and plays a major role in the development of tourism of Qingdao. Covering a national AAAAA scenic spot, 3 AAAA scenic spots and 8 AAA scenic spots, Laoshan District was successfully listed among the first batch of National All-for-one Tourism Demonstration Zones. Laoshan Mountain Scenic Spot, located in the east of the district, is a famous Taoist cultural resort at home and abroad, always known as the "land for supernatural being" and the "No.1 coastal mountain". Laoshan Bay International Ecological Health City was on the list of the first batch of national healthy tourism demonstration bases.

4.The main carrying area of large-scale functional facilities

Laoshan District also contains numerous large functional facilities such as Qingdao Grand Theater, Qingdao Sport Center, Qingdao International Convention and Exhibition Center, Qingdao Planning Exhibition Hall, Qingdao Museum, Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University and Qingdao No.2 Middle School.
