Haier has recently led the release of the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) international standard for refrigerator freshness in Beijing. With this, Haier has now led or participated in a total of 120 international standards, making it the Chinese home appliance company with the highest involvement in global standard-setting and the largest number of international standard experts. These widely recognized and adopted standards reflect the growing global influence of Chinese enterprises.
With standards serving as a universal language, Haier has been playing a proactive role in global standardization efforts as one of the first Chinese companies to expand internationally. Haier developed the patented Shock Proof technology in 2002 with a focus on electrical safety for the water heaters it produced and submitted China's first international standard proposal with independent intellectual property rights in the home appliance sector. This technology was officially incorporated into the IEC international standard after 6 years of persistent efforts—a significant breakthrough for China's home appliance industry.
Haier's standardization efforts have also accelerated as its global expansion deepens. In line with its strategic growth into smart living, the digital economy, and healthcare, Haier has been actively shaping international standards in these sectors where it has led the development of international standards for technical communication, home multimedia gateways, and food networks in the smart living industry, providing innovative solutions and technical guidelines for smart home applications. Haier's industrial internet platform COSMOPlat has led or participated in 12 international standards under authoritative organizations in the digital economy, being the first Chinese industrial internet platform to achieve full international standard coverage across ISO, IEC, and IEEE while turning China's smart manufacturing innovations into globally recognized model standards. Haier Biomedical experts have been appointed as the sole co-conveners of two IEC working groups to spearhead the development of international standards for medical low-temperature storage equipment.
Haier's international standards have become a driving force for global industrial transformation and technological advancement beyond expanding into new sectors and increasing the number of standards. The newly released refrigerator freshness standard, for example, differs from previous standards led by European and American countries which primarily focused on energy consumption and noise levels. Instead, this new standard aligns with industry evolution by introducing freshness performance as a measurable benchmark for the first time. It not only establishes technical guidelines for refrigerator manufacturers worldwide but also drives innovation in technology development and certification testing models across the industry.
Haier's global market share has continued to rise alongside its standardization efforts. According to the latest data, Haier Group reported a global revenue of 401.6 billion yuan in 2024, an 8% increase, while total global profits reached 30.2 billion yuan, up 13%. The Chinese electric appliance giant has also maintained its position as the world's top major appliance brand by retail volume for 16 consecutive years.
